Carlos Salazar
Carlos Salazar has been a member of the Mike Metcalfe 30 Hour Soccer Marathon organization committee since the inception of the event and has acted as Chairperson. Carlos became involved in the event as a friend and teammate of Mike's. He originally was a member of the Organization Committee from Vancouver and has taken on increased involvement since moving back to Calgary in February 2006. In between a professional career at KPMG and staying active, Carlos has been able to help the Organization Committee grow the event and hopefully reach its 2012 target.
Katie Salazar- Team and Participant Liaison
Katie Salazar has been a member of the Organizing Committee since it began in 2004. Katie originally became involved through other committee members, but has returned every year because of the uniqueness and success of the annual event. Originally responsible for volunteers and participants, she is focused on liaising with all team and individual players for the marathon. When not teaching elementary school, she is traveling and enjoying the outdoors. This year, she hopes to help the soccer marathon beat its fundraising goal of $80,000 and celebrate its 9th year.
Martin Egli - Participant Liaison
Martin Egli is one of the original members of the Mike Metcalfe 30 hour Soccer Marathon organization committee. He has been involved in Calgary soccer for over 20 years and became friends with Mike while they were teammates in their early men's league years. Martin was thrilled that a couple years after Mike's battle with cancer he could bring a healthy Mike to the fold of his current Villains Alumni men's league team. Martin spends his days working for Marketplace Events and finding ways of helping the marathon attain its goal of providing support to Alberta cancer patients and their families.
Chris McKinnon – Prizing/Sponsorship
Chris McKinnon has been involved with the Mike Metcalfe 30 Hour Soccer Marathon as a player and volunteer since it began. This is his second year as a member of the organization committee. Chris played soccer with Mike and many of the committee members as a teenager and the ongoing friendship with Mike is a major reason for getting more involved in the event. Chris believes that an event like this requires dedicated, passionate and positive people like Mike and all of the volunteers, to continue its success and believes he can help in this way.
Mark Groves - Sponsorship/Prizing
Mark has been involved with the Soccer Marathon since its inception. He was originally involved because of his friendship with Mike, and his belief in the cause. Since then, with all of the momentum and positive energy, Mark has been swept up in the unbelievable passions of those involved in the program and effected by its successes. Mark works in the healthcare industry, and is an avid soccer player, snowboarder, and loves any form of watersports. Mark wants to see more new enrollment, and definitely more money raised by the participants in 2012.
Teri Salazar - Marketing
Teri first got involved with the Soccer Marathon when her friends asked her to join in 2006. Since then, Teri has managed all media onsite and prior to the event, as well as manage the facebook page (yay members). In her regular life, Teri works with Marketplace Events producing home shows in Calgary. Teri loves the positive energy surrounding the event and loves how much the event really helps better the care that Calgarians affected by cancer receive. Teri's goal this year is to increase our participants, involve more corporate teams and get the facebook group up to 600 members - so go and join today!
